Review 2008 Season

Team Peak Alfa GTV Class A

The 2008 season started with modifications to the 2007 GTV involving both engine and body shell.  The 2007 GTV 3.8 engine was upgraded with new manifolds and throttle bodies, taking the output in excess of 350 bhp. The new body shell received a similar upgrade, being extensively lightened and fitted with a redesigned roll cage. The effect of these changes would only be seen on the track. The car was totally untested, after late night completion before the first round.

SilverstoneMarch   The season started at Silverstone with the well-run Britcar organisation. 35 cars entered the Alfa Race. The day was extremely cold, with snow blizzards in between races. The lead changed several times in an exciting race. Team Peak Alfa GTV finished second, 0.8 second behind the winner.

April    The two Cadwell Park races were mainly dry. Just before the first race it started to rain but with sunshine all around a decision was made to run the Team Peak Alfa GTV on slick tyres.  During the race, the conditions became much worse that anticipated, resulting in 4th position, but, on a drying track, a win later in the day.

May    Snetterton was a lovely sunny day and provided exciting racing until a dislodged electrical connection rapidly stopped progress of the Team Peak Alfa GTV .

May    Rain again dominated the racing at Oulton Park.  A driving error resulted in a lock-up and a trip into the gravel!

June   Off the line the Team Peak Alfa GTV went from 3rd to head the field at Brands Hatch.  The following 3 way battle for the lead was nail-biting only spoiled by the abrasive Brands Hatch surface resulting in tyre degradation. The Team Peak Alfa GTV settled for 3rd.

June   At Rockingham the lead was taken from the start, and held until lap 6.  It looked as though Team Peak Alfa GTV was going to have to settle for 2nd until the leader made an error and crashed into the pit wall, leaving the way clear for a Team Peak Alfa GTV victory.

August   Another visit to Silverstone gave Team Peak Alfa several heart-stopping moments. We just managed to qualify on pole before the clutch failed. The next 2 hours showed the willingness of fellow competitors to support each other.  Gus, of Alfatune, played a major part in replacing the clutch and Alfashop for supplying it!

August   The second visit to Snetterton gave a straight forward win, from pole to flag.

Roger leading Adie & Neil - AngelseySeptember   The weather forecast for Anglesey was horrendous, with floods expected.  Saturday’s proceedings were at the point of being called off but qualifying went ahead.  The first race was affected by standing water, which caused mayhem.  Team Peak Alfa GTV triumphed in very difficult conditions. The second race was dry enough for slick tyres and again another victory for Team Peak Alfa

September   We were supporting the prestigious Britcar 24hour race at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit for the Kevin Griffiths Trophy Race.  This is the most important race of the year, on a current F1 circuit. The GP circuit was new to us but the 25 minutes qualifying was put to good use and the final result saw another  race win for Team Peak Alfa GTV.

November Tyre decisions were all important at Donington Park for the final race of the season.  Dry qualifying in the cold meant that the tyres never came up to temperature so Team Peak Alfa GTV had to settle for 3rd on the grid.  When the rain came a hurried change to wet tyres was required but the parade lap caused concerns, so a visit to the pits for checking meant that Team Peak Alfa had to start from the pit lane.  All 34 cars had passed before we could start but, by the end of lap one 22 of them had been caught and passed.  The rest of the field was picked off, one by one until the lead was taken on lap 5. Team Peak Alfa GTV finally won the race with a 25.5 second advantage over the rest of the field.

The results of the 2008 modifications speak for themselves.
After a successful season Roger, in his GTV, is the Winner of Class A 2008 in the Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship.

Plans for the 2009 season are already in progress.

The engine capacity change is a great improvement.  This, joined with running on slicks, has made the 156 much more competitive, as can be seen by the results.
We are looking at ways of making the 156 even faster for the 2009 season

2007 News

Alfa Romeo Specialist

Peak Alfa will be preparing a ex-JSM Alfa 156 for Peak Alfa employee Gareth Haywood. Gareth has recently acquired the 156 shell which, with the help of Roger Evans, he will be  building up as a (new) class B car for a limited season in 2007. However, they are hopeful of having it ready for the first round at Silverstone on March 24.

2006 Summary

Alfa Romeo Specialist

The 2006 season has shown continuing success for Roger's GTV 3.0 24v with a third successive Class D Championship in fact since moving into Class D five years ago, he has never been beaten!

Alfa Romeo Specialist This season has also seen an improvement in the Overall Championship, Roger becoming runner up, missing the Championship by only two points (Total points scored 282). A parts failure (exploding clutch) deprived Roger of a win in every race. The 2006 season also saw five more new class lap records. Roger's campaigned through the 2006 championship in the traditional black Peak Alfa livery which has been Rogers racing colours since 2002 and now a familiar livery in the championship.

Alfa Romeo Specialist Further exposure for the Peak Alfa colours were gained during 2006 as Graham Seager (pictured right) raced Rogers 155 from last year, still sporting the infamous black & white decals. Graham finished 7th in Class D.
